Contests, grants, markets that pay writers may list at no charge. Send to Hope.

Grab a bit of Hope . . . at least for a half hour, anyway.

At your request, Hope Clark discusses your writing life, your book's promotion, even your quest for grants . . . in person.

It's so hard to get your questions answered in an email. While Hope responds to all the emails she can, the details and concerns never get completely answered. Why not grab some one-on-one time with her in a telephone conversation?

Penny Sansevieri, founder of Author Marketing Experts, Inc., asked Hope not long ago why she wasn't consulting. Dumbfounded, Hope responded . . . "I don't know. Hadn't thought about it. Besides, who would want to talk to me?" Once the laughing stopped, Penny ordered Hope to open herself up to her readers. Make herself available to those with burning questions. Hope popped herself in the forehead, and ran home to do just that . . . make herself available.

The rules are quite simple.

  • Email Hope at hope@fundsforwriters.com with CONSULT in the subject to set up a time.
  • Purchase time with Hope in thirty-minute increments (see below).
  • Hope will call you on her nickel. Keep your appointment and have fun.

Of course, to effectively utilize your time, email Hope with questions or background in advance. She might be able to send you some links and information in advance to expedite and improve the session.

Dear Readers and Hope -

Back in October I had a one hour phone consultation with Hope. This was my first phone consultation and I was a bit timid on spending money for advice, but I did it, and it was worth more than the price of gold!

Hope gave me great ideas and insights for marketing my new book A 30 Day Retreat: A Personal Guide to Spiritual Renewal (Mahwah, NJ: Paulist Press, 2010). We talked about speaking at local colleges, libraries as well as establishing a professional web presence and or blog. Well, after one hour I had 4 pages of single-spaced notes which were then augmented by Hope's notes that she emailed me. I still have them and refer to them again and again.

Since then I totally revamped my website, www.williamcmills.com , started a blog called Walking With God www.williamcmills.blogspot.com , and ordered postcards for my book and new business cards. I took her advice and hired a freelance publicist to help with book publicity.

If you are wary about spending money for a phone consultation, don't worry, the results with Hope will be ten fold!!! Results after a one hour phone call: a new website and blog, a freelance publicist, marketing strategy and ideas, most importantly--knowing that I am on the right track for the future! Thanks Hope for your advice and newsletter!

Warm Regards,
Bill Mills, www.williamcmills.com

At this point  I am just getting started and feel challenged by the myriads of tasks that are involved.  I am so lucky to have HOPE (No pun intended). She is amazing, resourceful, reliable, and very affordable. She is so good at mentoring that I literally am speechless.  ~Lynne Robbins

I read through all your specific comments and looked through your suggestions on the two stories. It’s remarkable how you can zero in on words, phrases, etc. that just ‘light up’ pieces. You gave me such detailed critiques. In fact, I’ve really never received this caliber of help with my works. The writers who attend your workshops are in for a treat. I’ve never received such guidance from a writing teacher. Yes, you are a teacher, Hope – an excellent one. You have struck a chord of camaraderie in my heart and I will follow your writing career, wishing you great success. Thank you, Hope. I received far more than my $50 worth and will be back for more help later. ~Audrey D. Massey

Phone Consultation with Hope

What can you learn from Hope?

  • How grants work.
  • Where to take your writing.
  • How to develop a brand.
  • How to submit to a contest.
  • How to make a better living at your writing.
  • How to improve your writing.
  • How to find markets.
  • Ask her to find markets or competitions to fit your writing.
  • Have her critique your query, article or story.

Wait! What if you don't like phones? What if you prefer email?

Hey, part of the reason Hope didn't think about phone consults for so long was she adores email. You can take your time in an email, reformat your questions, think more clearly.

If you prefer email, consider this level of consultation. Five emails exchanges, ten . . . whatever it takes. We're talking your questions at length and Hope's replies at length. Lots of information packed in a short time, with her special attention. The emails give you a record for reference.

She can read your chapters and critique, advise about grants, help you groom a piece for a contest, find markets for you, locate agents that suit your particular genre, or help motivate you when you're stuck. You decide how you wish to use your time. If you have any questions before you sign up, contact hope@fundsforwriters.com

Would Hope look at my writing?

Sure she would. Maybe you simply need someone to review your work before you submit it. Whether a query letter, a synopsis, a magazine pitch, a feature or fiction, your work might need another set of eyes. (Note: no poetry or children's stories.)  Hourly rate is $75 but email Hope at hope@fundsforwriters.com if you wish to discuss your project or situation and negotiate a flat rate, if that makes you more comfortable. You'll receive the manuscript marked with edits and a one-page narrative for items under 1,000 words, two-pages for those over 1,000 words. Please note that reading time must be considered in the overall fee.

Would Hope find markets, agents, publishers or contests to fit what I'm writing?

A common question, one Hope receives daily. FundsforWriters tries to provide lots of resources for you to make informed decisions, but sometimes you don't feel comfortable deciding on an agent. Maybe you aren't certain your writing fits a contest. What if a publisher doesn't handle your genre or doesn't accept unagented submissions? If you don't have the time or knowledge to select your markets, contests, agents or publishers, Hope can take a look at your work, or description of your work, and provide 10, 25 or 50 such venues for you. She will make sure they are accepting submissions, appreciate your genre and aren't expired or out of business. What about grants? If you wish grants researched in your area, include that as well. They aren't as common as markets or contests, but she'll be glad to include some grants in your search request, at least 20% of the requested number.

You'll be asked to email Hope the following items to assist her:

  • Your website (if applicable).
  • Your publishing history (if any - specify self-pubbed or not).
  • Your writing history/experiences.
  • Your education.
  • Your geographic region (helps with some grants, contests and markets).
  • Your current project or writing area you are currently pursuing.
  • A narrative describing what type resources you have in mind for your work.
  • A copy of the work being marketed, or a strong sample of your work.
