Submissions...

MARKET, CONTEST, JOB,  AND GRANT LISTINGS

As always, if you have a PAYING markets, contest, job or grant, send it to us and we'll be glad to consider it. 9 times out of 10 we'll accept it as long as the listing can be confirmed online or via email. Remember it must be a PAYING opportunity and not a listing that pays in copies, gifts certificates, or goodies. Royalty contracts and publishing contracts are considered PAID compensation and are gladly accepted.

ARTICLES

Articles should fall between 500-600 words.  Why so short?  Writers look to FFW for sources.  So each FundsforWriters newsletter lists only one article - short and sweet and to the point.  That leaves more space for awards, contests, grants and markets. So make each word count. MAKE YOUR WRITING TIGHT. Watch the passive voice.

If you are up to it, we'd like to hear about your success, thought and/or advice about some aspect of earning funds through writing. Actually resources with links are much desired. We do NOT want stories about...

  • how to write
  • how to develop plot, characters or settings
  • topics that cannot relate in some manner to making more money as a writer

We DO want...

  • ideas on breaking into a particular market
  • pointers on winning contests
  • unique ways to develop an income with words
  • success stories with ideas for others
  • profitable business practices related to writing
  • seasonal material affiliated with particular markets
  • grant success stories
  • nonprofit partnerships
  • unique markets
  • unusual writing income ideas
  • anything to help a writer make a dollar penning words
  • a dash of humor, if possible; a positive note and a happy ending

Hint: List markets with links, and we'll look even harder at your submission! Our readers like to walk away with tools to use. DO NOT USE WORDS IN ALL CAPS. Do not query in texting-ese.

Query or Manuscript: We accept either one, but to save you time and trouble, you might want to query unless you are pretty sure about the topic from reading FundsforWriters for years!

Email: We prefer all submission by email and WITHOUT attachments unless you are given the nod to send an attachment. Viruses are nasty critters, you know.

Payment: $45 for unpublished original articles; $15 for reprints.  Please indicate which you are submitting.  If a reprint, list where and when the piece was published.  Payment made when article is accepted, usually within a week of submission, often within a day.  FFW purchases one time electronic rights and archival rights for up to six (6) months. After publication in the newsletter, you may resell your article after 30 days. FFW purchases articles for use often three to six months downstream. Please do not ask when it will be published as the editor retains the right to move articles around due to unforeseen circumstances.

NOTE: If you choose payment via PayPal, I pay two dollars more.

Final Manuscript: When you submit the final manuscript, include:

  • the word count
  • the title
  • the piece
  • a brief bio at the end
  • how you'd like to be paid - PayPal or check. Tell FFW either the email address for PayPal or the postal address for the check. Of course, if you don't wish to be paid, you can leave that information off - :)
  • NO ATTACHMENTS

WRITING KID Submissions:

We accept articles of up to 500 words for WritingKid. They should be written by writers between the ages of 8 and 21, but on occasion FFW accepts pieces from adults who understand kids who write. The subject may be about anything to do with being a writer, learning how to write or the importance of writing. Talk about what you like about writing or someone who impacted your writing. Who is your favorite writer and why? What do you plan to do with your writing? What experiences have you had that molded you as a writer?

Payment is $10-$25 for young writers ages 16-21 or adults. Those 15 and below receive their choice of book. Plus, you get published in a newsletter that reaches two thousand students, their teachers and their parents!

NO ATTACHMENTS.

NOTE: If you choose payment via PayPal, I pay a dollar more.
